It has long been said that paying back tit for tat just ruins 2 lives. And that a person should learn to forgive and move on when slighted. As well, that critical thought of others simply exposes one's own self-esteem lacks.
But you also have this problem where someone has wounded you deeply by something they said or did. And these thoughts tend to hang around for days. Yes, you can simply release them, and pray for them, and carry on with your positive approaches to life while those thoughts will eventually fall away. Another approach is to bury yourself in productive work.
So along that line, I would suggest this datum:
"Revenge is best served as Outrageous Success and Properity"
I would tell you to spread this prosperity around, to invest in other's success. Substantial charitable contributions is always better than ostentatious displays of your success in buying expensive cars, etc. As well, sensible investing will ensure your success strengthens. To be sure, you limit your contact with such people and their emotional cancers of Criticizing, Complaining, Comparing, Competing, and Contending - as Stephen Covey covered in his "7 Habits of Highly Effective People".
